STRIKE LEAGUE
This is a passion project that I have been working on for the last few months.
I call it STRIKE LEAGUE. (2021)
The concept of the branding was heavily inspired by the current WNBA rebrand. In the logo, I created an athlete with a bun (to signify she was ready to put in work), and depicted her as a quarterback winding up to throw. It was important to me that she'd be a QB, because it is a position that many in the sport associate as one that is played from the shoulders up. I wanted the notion that women —if put in the position to compete— could be as prolific at playing quarterback as men can be.
The design is simple and no-frills with the intent to have the athlete to be front and center. This league will be about them, first and foremost.
As of August 16th, 2024, we finished our inaugural season (the first all-girls flag football season in the entire state of Oklahoma), complete with a crowned champion and player awards. We hope it to be the first of many seasons, and that STRIKE can effect change in Oklahoma women's sports.
I had this idea (for the coaches awards) from the very start. I wanted to reward the top players with a photo shoot. But not your typical shoot of girls in their uniforms, on a football field while holding a football. I wanted something that showcased and celebrated girlhood.
It was somewhat difficult to get the parents on board with their busy schedules, but once I showed the moms the Pinterest boards that I curated for inspiration, they quickly got in line (haha)
I think it turned out great. I'm grateful to the parents for seeing the vision, the players for being willing participants, and my photographer Abby for always being on the same creative wavelength.
