Lavinia

 Lavinia

I was lucky to meet this particular client through a close friend who knew someone in need of a designer. Katie Enright, owner and CEO of Lavinia has led quite a life. Once on the path to the convent to become a nun, Katie had a twist of fate that led her to eventually discover the impact that THC could have on one's sex life. She experimented with some homemade products just for herself. Requests from family and friends came through. Then friends of friends. This was the birth of Lavinia.

I think a lot of weed branding and design is tacky. Marijuana leaves. A ton of green. Crazy typefaces. I have always wondered what I would do if given the chance. Not only do I find myself designing for the cannabis industry, but the sex industry also! In addition to edibles, I'm also thinking sensual, not sexy. Intimate and seductive. Pink is a primary color in the brand standards, but not too feminine to make the masculine subconsciously think that this is a product solely for women.

As Lavinia already had solid branding and a logo in place, they needed a different set of eyes on a packaging project for their brand-new edible gummies that hadn't yet hit the market. What came of the collaborative effort were subtle color gradients that referenced the flavor options offered, a grainy effect that gave some visual texture to the UV soft touch the bag was printed with, and a bold "SEX" —as suggested by Katie herself— to stand out in the cannabis store display. It was one of the few times when a client requesting something to be bigger worked!

When the bag was complete, I was asked to redesign Lavinia's flagship product, the oh.hi cannabis lubricant tincture (and packaging), followed by the label and packaging of another brand new product, the oh.hello THC lube launcher. Then the redesigning of the website followed. Adhering to brand standards, while adding a fresh, clean aesthetic established in the packaging phases.

Katie has been hands down one of my best clients to date. She can call, text, or email any time and we can get right back in the lab for anything. I had a blast working on this and hope there will be many more opportunities to collaborate in the future.
